Schoolies Event Supported by Local Business

44% of businesses surveyed in Business Victor Harbor’s latest Schoolies survey have said that they support the Schoolies Victor Harbor event going ahead this year.

The event is set to be held in Victor Harbor from Friday 20 November to Monday 22 November but it is still yet to be determined if it is going to proceed due to current restrictions around COVID-19.

Of the 27 local businesses that responded to the BVH survey, 29.63% said they didn’t support the event going ahead, 14.81% said they didn’t mind and a further 11% said they would support the event only if the health advice was in the events favour.

When asked whether the event resulted in an increase in turnover for their business 59.2% said it didn’t, while 22.22% said it did and 18.22% said it actually resulted in a decrease in turnover.

The biggest concern among businesses surveyed was the ability for the event to be COVID-safe and for attendees to adhere to social distancing, while others believe that many school leavers will visit Victor Harbor anyway on this weekend and having the event ensures it will be done safely and in a controlled manner.

SAPOL is set to meet with Encounter Youth and SA Health in the coming weeks to discuss the situation and the City of Victor Harbor has stated that any decision related to the cancellation of the event will be made based on the advice of SA Health and the South Australian Police.
