The Albanese Labor Government will fund a new Regional University Study Hub in Victor Harbor as part of a $16m announcement today to open 10 new Regional University Study Hubs around Australia this year, bringing university closer to students living in the the regions.
The current 34 Hubs support more than 3,400 students, studying more than 1,000 different courses, through more than 200 tertiary education providers. They provide spaces to support students, including those from low socio-economic backgrounds, First Nations students and people with disability. The South Coast Study Hub in Victor Harbor is expected be available to students over the next 12 months.
"This is a great achievement by all who have been advocating for a University Study Hub in Victor Harbor, that supports the Fleurieu region," said Colin Shearing, Executive Officer of Business Victor Harbor. "Business Victor Harbor, together with the AHFKI, RDA and City of Victor Harbor have been strongly advocating for a Regional University Study Hub for well over the past 3 years. The initiative will now enable our local university students and those people contemplating university study, to access the South Coast University Study Hub situated at Victor Harbor, instead of making the journey to Adelaide, which is way overdue for our region!"
"Having a Regional University Study Hub provides excellent opportunities for our local business community, including their local supply chains and supports investment and attraction within Victor Harbor and the greater Fleurieu region," continued Colin. "A wonderful result for our local secondary school students and people contemplating access with the higher education sector."
