Babara Vermeulen
I am a South African born with Dutch heritage. I finished year 12 and went to the UK for a year before studying. This is where I met my husband, Craig. Now married for 16 years. We set of to New Zealand where I became a citizen and finished my Bachelor of health science and Optometry Hons degree. During studies I worked at OPSM for 9 years where I qualified as a dispensing Optician.

I was always interested in owning my own business. Specsavers provided me with this opportunity. We came over to Adelaide so I can practice with great leadership and mentorship. I was soon on my way to finishing the business development course Pathway through Specsavers and was offered a new business withing 6 months.

Specsavers Victor Harbor was built from being a green store to now being the largest growth and best clinical practice in South Australia Specsavers. In this time, we had our beautiful 2 children Jacob (6) and Sophia (4). I was nominated for the AusMumPreneur in Young business owners and our practice won the same year the most prestigious award for Clinical Performance and growth.

I’ve been involved in multiple advisory groups and clinical advisory groups for Optometry. Through Specsavers I have been able to build and grow my leadership profile through multiple training and development programs. I look forward to what the future holds and I’m proud to have a business that has been nominated and won best clinical practice in Australia several years in a row.
